There are several steps involved in the purchase of a new or used forklift truck. Think about the following things prior to choosing.
Step 1: What are your requirements?
Knowing both the kinds and weight of your loads should be taken into account. Consider the maximum lifting height that you would require. Determine whether you would be using the forklift outdoors or indoors, or both. Measure the width of your narrowest aisles and calculate how much maneuvering space there is. What would be the duration of use every day in terms of hours?
Step 2: Is a used forklift your best alternative?
If you will be utilizing the forklift four hours a day or less, you can possibly get away with purchasing used.
Step 3: Fuel options
Electric forklifts are suitable for using indoors because they are relatively quiet and produce no exhaust emissions. They have large batteries that could last eight hours before recharging is required. The cost of buying electric forklifts is higher, but the costs of operation are lower. On the plus side, they do not require fuel storage area. They also tend to last longer since they have less moving parts. However, the time it takes to recharge the battery needs to be factored in. This could take up to 16 hours, including cooling and recharging. And battery recharging stations might be required.
Step 4: Tire choice
Forklifts have cushion tires. There are a few choices when it comes to tires. Some are made of solid rubber, some are inflated, and some combine qualities of both - solid pneumatic tires. For indoor application, cushion tires are suggested. For outdoor operation, pneumatic tires are best. Solid pneumatic tires are less likely to be punctured by sharp things or rough terrain so they are the best option for risky conditions.
Step 5: Think about additional alternatives
Additional options should be considered when buying a new or used forklift truck. Look at the different attachments that you may require to customize your forklift. Check out the safety features and ergonomics of the forklift
Step 6: Evaluate your choices
It is a good idea to rent various brands and models and find out what meets your requirements the best. A good dealer will agree to help you with this. This will ensure that the model you finally purchase is the right one for your requirements. Be sure to consult with your dealer.
