Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts consist of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, connected to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is vertically raised. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is great for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These machinery use either an electric motor or a combustion engine in order to power the lifting apparatus and move the lift. The operator must move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, as the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain units feature a different base that is particularly designed for surfaces that are uneven. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive in order to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain easily.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which elevates both vertically and diagonally. This particular unit has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform which is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are designed in order to reach on top of and over top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to raise a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift utilizes a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled models. These machines offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is essential to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
