A stock picker, also called an order picker is a machinery that is somewhat similar to a forklift. It enables the operator to use forks to pick up a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain items, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Usually, order pickers are operated by electricity. These type of machinery are mainly utilized in a warehouse environment. Most often they are utilized for transporting pallets and completing particular tasks in the stocking and shelving department.
The order picker operator sits up on a platform where they operate the controls. These controls help to direct the equipment backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. As soon as the operator has positioned the unit in place the tines can be lifted up to the required level which makes it very convenient for the operator. For instance, if the needed materials, are located on a shelf that the operator could not reach, then entire platform can be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
After the order has been picked, the platform is lowered back to its original position. Then the order picker can be driven to its next load. With the majority of models, it is possible to move the order picker while the platform is raised, however, some businesses may have policies and procedures in place preventing such maneuvers for safety reasons. An order picker can also place pallets on a shelf. Forklifts and stackers could be utilized to finish these particular tasks at some companies instead.
