Narrow aisle forklifts
Usually utilized within warehouse operations is the Narrow Aisle Forklift. These forklifts are vital equipments within the industry since their small size and excellent maneuverability allow warehouses to maximize storing space. They could easily go around aisles which are 1.8 meters wide, while standard lift trucks need 3.4 meters of aisle width, at least.
This type of forklift is sub-categorized as "narrow aisle forklifts" and "very narrow aisle forklifts". The former need 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, while the latter can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The narrow aisle forklift design features forks that are positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for tight spaces.
To be able to make sure that the forklift is moving in a straight line down the aisle, some very narrow aisle forklifts comprise wire or optical systems. That way, the operator can concentrate more on the picking and the placement of loads.
These kinds of lifts are equipped with cushion tires made from solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on smooth, paved surfaces and concrete floors. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors that is best used within indoor environments. Propane-powered models are available too.
